THE ARTIST
Margaret Jones Callahan
Margaret is a Canadian artist whose work explores the intersection of emotional depth and the creative process. Her art is rooted in a deep relationship with nature and an abstract exploration of expressive mind. Stories and images arise from contemplation of landscapes and the elemental forces that shape them.
British Columbia and Nova Scotia hold a strong presence in her work. The vast mountains, forests, changing light, and powerful skies of British Columbia speak to spaciousness, movement, and distance. In Nova Scotia, she is inspired by the ocean, coastal rocks, winds, fog, night skies, and the shifting colours of St. Margarets Bay. These places are different in character, yet both invite a deep awareness of the rhythms of weather, light, silence, and the enduring forces of the natural world.
She is drawn to the elements earth, air, fire, water, and space and to the ways they reveal both the outer landscape and the inner life. Her paintings aspire to share the feeling and spirit of these places, making the invisible visible.
